ROCK STACKS

My neighbor on Air Bellows Gap Road stacks rocks on a place between his house and the road with a white pine in the background as seen from the road. He used to keep a stack of rocks going at the hairpin turn coming off the Parkway. He walked up there and back every day, often adding a few rocks to the stack. But out in public like that they were always getting knocked down.
There was a time I put a rock on top of every fencepost along my road for quite a ways. It wasn't something I did in one day. From time to time I'd add some more until every post had a rock on it. Invariably somebody would come along and get freaked out and start knocking them off the posts. Once, somebody left a note written on folded paper under one of the rocks. It said, 'Are you a devil-worshiper? Answer this. I want to know.' I must have inadvertently advertised myself a recruiter. I've never been able to figure out that connection between stacked rocks and the devil. I don't imagine the people who think like that even know they do.

  1. I love these kinds of posts. (The pun only now apparent to me.) I don't understand why the web isn't filled with them. A nice image, a bit of reserved autobiography mixed with some sensible social commentary. Fine Art as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to your future as a blogger.

  2. Thanks Steve.

    I appreciate what you're doing.
Every one of your images I've seen is remarkable.
I understand why you call your blog anyone can paint.
All it takes is paint and vision, essentially. That's what you've got it down to. And whatever tools one wants to use.
I like that you're doing everything the same size, and small.
And I love your cat video.
